If I bought £400 ($750) shoes from eBay USA, would I have to pay import tax once they arrive in England?

These shoes are used so would be treated as 2nd hand goods. Would that make a difference?

    Best to confirm this with customs and excise before ordering but i think yes its taxable, even if except they sometimes change you anyway and its a big hassle to claim it back.

    yes, you would have to pay import taxes - import duty + vat at 17.5%, even thoughthey're second hand. i'd love to tell you how much duty exactly but different types of footwear attract different rates of import duty. best way to find out is ring the uk tariff classification helpline on 01702366077, they'll ask you what your item is. describe the footwear to them, they'll classify them and give you the import duty rate. whatever they give you, add 17.5% vat to everything (thats you £400 inc shipping inc duty).

    ps, customs won't contact you about it, the delivery service on receiving end will pay on your behalf then ask you to reimburse them.
